Project Description:

A wood pellet boiler has been installed at Tipperary Energy Agency’s new offices at Erasmus Smith House, Cahir. The boiler is a Gilles boiler made in Austria. The boiler’s output is 45kW; it is connected to a 1,000 litre factory insulat6ed buffer tank. The boiler and its fuel store have been installed inside an old garden shed behind the building. The boiler is connected to a dual factory insulated district heat pipe to the existing boiler plant room. Heating controls were installed to manage the new boiler. The existing oil boiler was retained and integrated as peak and back up

Pay as you save for tenant (Tipperay Energy Agency):

  • This is a type of energy saving contract that could work well for long term rented buildings, it could be driven by the tenant or the landlord.
    • TEA as tenant are contracted to repay the cost of the boiler minus the grant to  Tipperary County Council over 5 years, therefore the boiler has zero cost to Tipperary County Council
    • Annual saving on fuel cost to TEA by switching to biomass is €4,000 per annum, therefore the boiler will have zero cost to TEA
    • After the five year repayment period has ended the TEA as tenant of the building will have heat for half the cost it would be on oil (€4,000 saving per annum)
