Gurteen College Nominated In 2018 SEAI Sustainable Energy Awards

Gurteen College have been shortlisted in the Energy Team of the Year category for the 2018 SEAI Sustainable Energy Awards. The college is a registered charity founded in 1947 and offers a range of recognised Teagasc and other courses to people who intend making a career in either agriculture, equines or related services. In association with Tipperary Energy Agency principal, Mike Pearson developed a renewable energy programme to reduce the energy usage throughout college grounds. The use of energy on site has been improved with the growing of willow for biomass fuel and the generation of electricity through the wind turbine and PV system which reduce the need for electricity to be imported off the grid.
