Project TypeCommunity Energy
Services InvolvedCommunity Energy,
Tipperary Energy Agency have facilitated the measurement of consumption in Ballina and its neighbouring village Killaloe. In this research the Ecological Footprint of Ballina and Killaloe residents was measured and the learning from the survey was disseminated to the householders. Over four years the Ballina community underwent a green transition resulting in a 28% reduction in emissions equating to well over 5,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide. This was a staggering achievement for a community which is currently trying to trade these emissions using ISO14064 certification. This ground breaking research hope to support householder greening through the collective benefit of traded emissions.
Other work Tipperary Energy Agency has been involved in with this community is a stove and insulation retrofit scheme as part of the Tipperary Warmer Homes scheme. In this project we are utilizing €0.5 million provided by SEAI to increase the efficiency of Tipperary households. The local Family Resource Centre in Ballina and Killaloe is supporting our work in retrofitting these households with insulation and stoves.
