Project TypeCommunity Energy
Services InvolvedCommunity Energy,
The Inch Community took part in the European Energy Neighborhoods project. A group of local households came together coordinated by their local energy champion Rosita Callanan. The energy use of the households was monitored and they were provided with energy saving advice by Tipperary Energy Agency. The team was very successful and drove an average energy saving of 18% across the board. Low carbon food workshops were also held in Inch and great discussion was promoted on what the community can do to lower its impact in relation to food and other consumables in the future.
This work has led to further work in the community by Tipperary Energy Agency. This includes a local community café called Bothy in Borrisoleigh which has been connected with European counterparts. A number of green initiatives from around Europe have recently shared experience and dined in Bothy. Tipperary Energy Agency bought visitors from Belgium, Holland, Turkey, Romania and Italy into Bothy where the local community explained their ideas. Bothy is embedded in a local movement toward lowering food miles and energy usage. Together this community will develop other initiatives and we hope to be a part of supporting these wherever possible.
