Corlann
Tipperary Energy Agency was engaged to conduct comprehensive energy audits of two Corlann sites, Lota and St. Patrick’s, as well as an assessment of the organisation’s transport fleet. The audits identified practical opportunities to reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and support long-term sustainability goals.
Lota Site
The Lota site audit covered 33 buildings with a combined floor area of approximately 7,500 m². The site includes a diverse range of buildings, including a historic main house dating from 1765, a church constructed in the 1960s, and a swimming pool built in 1983.
The audit assessed energy performance across the site and developed a phased Solar PV roadmap consisting of three potential development stages. A comprehensive metering strategy was also recommended to enable accurate monitoring and management of energy consumption across the campus.
St. Patrick's Site
The St. Patrick’s site comprises 17 buildings with a total floor area of approximately 5,600 m². The principal buildings on the site were constructed prior to 1924, presenting unique challenges and opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.
The audit included the design specification for a Solar PV installation and the development of a detailed metering plan to improve energy monitoring and support future energy management initiatives.
Transport & Fleet
In addition to the building audits, Tipperary Energy Agency conducted a comprehensive review of the organisation’s transport fleet. The assessment evaluated the operational and capital costs associated with fleet electrification while also considering alternative low-carbon fuel options.
The study concluded that the use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) offered an effective short- to medium-term solution for reducing fleet emissions while maintaining operational requirements. The report also outlined a long-term pathway towards fleet electrification as technologies mature and become increasingly financially viable.
