Clean Energy
Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon future depends on scaling up renewable energy generation and supply. At Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA), we help local authorities, community organisations, SME’s and public bodies design, plan, and deliver renewable energy projects that cut emissions, strengthen local economies and build resilience.
From solar PV on offices, farms, schools and community centres to district heating for towns and public buildings, TEA ensures every renewable project is designed for maximum impact and long-term success.
Services
Since the agency was founded in 1998 our engineers have amassed extensive renewable energy project experience. The agency has supported Ireland’s first Community-Owned Wind Farm in Templederry, Tipperary. We have also implemented numerous biomass renewable heat projects in Tipperary County Council’s buildings. More recently, Tipperary Energy Agency has focussed on the design and introduction of heat pumps and solar photovoltaics as a method of eliminating fossil fuels in its facilities. Our Clients can be confident in the Renewable Energy experience of Tipperary Energy Agency through its turnkey service approach including initial Consultancy, Detailed Design, Public Procurement or Tendering, Project Management and Grant Coordination.
Renewable Energy Feasibility & Design
We design strategies that turn ambition into action.
- Feasibility studies for solar PV, wind, and biomass projects
- Heat demand and supply mapping for district heating
- Technical design of renewable energy systems for public buildings and community facilities
- Site assessments and resource modelling
Project Development & Management
- End-to-end project management for public and community renewables
- Tendering, procurement and contractor management
- Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) role
- Monitoring and verification of performance
District Heating Develoment
- Heat network feasibility studies
- Energy master planning for towns and local authorities
- Business case development and investment roadmaps
- EU best practice integration into Irish district heating models
Solar PV
Solar Photovoltaics (PV) is a technology that converts daylight directly into electricity that can be used to power your business. Our experienced team of engineers will assess whether Solar PV is technically and financially feasible for your business.
Learn more about Solar PV for your business here.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) store electricity so it can be used later when your business needs it most. A BESS captures excess energy — typically from Solar PV or the grid — and holds it in high‑capacity batteries. When demand increases, electricity prices rise, or solar generation drops, the stored energy is released to support your site.
Learn more about BESS here.
Heat Pumps
Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs), Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) and High Temperature Heat Pumps (HTHPs) all use electricity to transfer renewable heat into a building. Each offers unique advantages depending on your building, heating system and energy requirements. We assess your property and operational needs to identify the most suitable heat pump solution for your business.
Learn more about heat pumps here.
Biomass
Biomass fuel is a renewable, sustainable energy source that delivers reliable, cost-effective heating. It offers a range of benefits for businesses, including reduced heating costs and exemption from carbon tax.
Learn more about Biomass for your business here.
Bivalent & Hybrid Heating Solutions
Bivalent and hybrid heating systems combine a heat pump with a secondary heat source, such as an existing gas, oil, biomass or electric boiler. This approach allows businesses to use the heat pump for a significant proportion of their heating demand (>90%) while retaining the existing or secondary heat source to provide additional capacity when required.

Small Scale Renewable Energy Support Scheme (SRESS)
The Small-Scale Renewable Electricity Support Scheme, or SRESS, is an Irish Government support scheme for small-scale renewable electricity projects. It is designed to help eligible farmers, community groups, schools, public bodies, non-profit organisations and businesses generate renewable electricity through solar PV or wind projects.
Learn more about SRESS here.
ESB Networks Integration
Many energy projects require engagement with ESB Networks to secure grid connections, increase site capacity, export electricity, or connect renewable technologies. TEA provides independent technical support to help clients navigate application requirements, connection processes, and grid-related challenges.
Learn more about ESB Networks Integration here.
Planning & Environmental
Planning is often an essential step in the project timeline for delivering large infrastructure projects. Ground-mounted solar PV arrays, solar carports, battery storage, commercial scale biomass plants, etc. often require planning permission, or at least formal confirmation with the relevant local authority. Environmental requirements often apply in parallel with planning permission.
Tipperary Energy Agency provide independent technical support to establish the planning requirements, the evidence required to support them, and how those requirements fit into the wider project programme. Learn more here.
