Energy Transition – Ownership or Investment opportunity?
October 10 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
At LIT Thurles Campus on Thursday October 10th, we are holding a discussion on how communities can benefit from energy developments in their areas (7.30pm-8.30pm). The aim is to canvas views in order to influence the community investment options being adopted by leading developers.
Our questions include: Would communities like to own or invest? What type of structures are best suited? Including low income households. Balancing local or national investors/owners
Ireland’s new Renewable Energy policy (RESS – Renewable Energy Support Scheme) will require developers to allow local communities invest or part-own new local energy developments, as well as receive sums from a defined and transparent community benefit fund. Tipperary Energy Agency, a not for profit organisation, is are carrying out this research, together with Energy For All, a UK-based social enterprise, and a number of commercial developers. The outcomes of this research will influence the RESS-aligned community investment options adopted by leading developers. All welcome.
