2,000 Tonnes of Co2 Emissions Reduced in 2018 thanks to Tipperary Energy Agency

As Ireland faces substantial fines for missing European carbon reduction targets by 2020, Tipperary Energy Agency are working towards a more sustainable Ireland. In 2018, the work of the agency helped to reduce 2,000 Co2 emissions and save 7million kWh of energy.

Each year, Tipperary Energy Agency work with community groups, sports clubs, SMEs and homeowners to help them gain access to funding to lower their costs and reduce their emissions by carrying out energy efficient upgrades on their buildings and homes. Thanks to these upgrades, 100 heatmaps were installed in 2018, replacing fossil fuel boilers.

€2 million worth of energy efficient upgrades was carried out in Tipperary in 2018 thanks to Better Energy Communities, an Energy Efficiency Grant Scheme available through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and applied for by Tipperary Energy Agency. Community facilities such as community halls, resource centres, schools and sports clubs can avail of up to 50% funding while SME’s, large commercial buildings, private nursing homes and hotels can avail of up to 30% funding.

Through their SuperHomes Ireland programme, Tipperary Energy Agency have worked with 81 homeowners in 2018 to help them retrofit their homes. Up to 50% funding is available to homeowners to carry out energy efficient upgrades. This includes minimum measures of heatpump installation, ventilation and air tightness.
