Celebrating the Success of the OwnYourSECAP Project

Launched in September 2022, the EU LIFE-funded OwnYourSECAP project is on track for successful completion in August 2025. Throughout its duration, the project has fostered strong collaboration with local authorities across Ireland, delivering high-quality capacity-building initiatives that support local climate action planning and implementation.

A major highlight of OwnYourSECAP has been the establishment of a robust network of 588 stakeholders across 26 local authorities. These connections have been instrumental in advancing local climate adaptation and mitigation actions.

Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA) has played a key role in supporting the implementation of Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP) measures in target counties including Tipperary, Mayo, Donegal, and Galway City. TEA has also supported the replication of this work in Leitrim, Clare, and Cavan County Councils. These actions address pressing climate challenges by promoting energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and climate resilience. Additionally, TEA has supported local authorities in taking vital steps towards establishing their own energy management systems.

Over the course of the project, 20 capacity-building events — including workshops and webinars — have been delivered. These events covered carefully selected topics and were co-developed with external partners such as M-CO and HeatGrid, ensuring sessions were insightful, relevant, and of the highest quality. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.

Beyond Ireland, the project has created valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and mutual learning among project partners and local authorities across the 11 EU Member States involved. The results and insights from this work will be detailed in the upcoming project deliverables — stay tuned by visiting our website and the official OwnYourSECAP project site.

Tipperary Energy Agency extends sincere thanks to EU LIFE for funding this impactful project, and to our project partners for their unwavering commitment to climate action. A heartfelt thank you also goes to the participating local authorities — your engagement has been the foundation of OwnYourSECAP’s success.

As we bring this phase of the project to a close, the OwnYourSECAP consortium bids farewell — for now. We look forward to future opportunities to continue this important work.
